2007 cadillac srx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This is one utility vehicle that does it all. It drives like a european sedan and its edgy styling stands out in a sea of boxy sport-utilities and minivans. Yet the srx is quite practical. It can carry up to seven passengers, and its flat, carpeted cargo area works great for hauling cargo. its sharp handling, quick acceleration and high-performance braking make for a sporty, enjoyable experience with a smooth, extremely quiet ride. the srx comes trimmed with leather upholstery and is loaded with luxury features. The interior is stylish and comfortable. Its flat cargo floor makes the srx a good dog car. srx is available with a v6 or v8 engine. The v8s are smooth and confident and deliver brilliant acceleration for a vehicle of this size. All-wheel drive is available and we've found that the srx performs superbly in the snow. overall improvements to the srx for 2007 include an all-new cockpit with new design, materials and hand-crafted assembly process. Cadillac also has mated the northstar v8-equipped models to a new fully electronic six-speed automatic transmission for 2007. The base audio system for the srx has now been upgraded to bose for 2007. new options for 2007 include a sport package with 20-inch wheels, all-wheel drive and limited slip differential; a bose 5. 1 digital surround sound option; a theater option package with bose 5. 1 digital surround sound, navigation and rear-seat entertainment; an automatic odor filtration option; and passenger side inflatable restraint (psir) suppression, which detects the occupant's size and, in turn, enables or disables the air bag automatically. lineupthe cadillac srx comes in two models differentiated by their engines, a 255-hp v6 or a 320-hp v8. New safety equipment for 2007 is the optional psir suppression, which detects the passenger occupant's size and automatically enables or disables the air bag accordingly. walkaroundthe cadillac srx is a medium-size luxury utility. Like many of the latest crossover vehicles that are based on cars, the srx feels and drives more like a station wagon than a traditional truck-based sport utility. Station wagon fans think wagons are more sophisticated than sport utilities, possibly because they are. The srx straddles the middle. It has the function and driving performance of a wagon, but a look (and higher seating position) that's suggestive an suv. Its ride, handling and technology are more sophisticated than most truck-based suvs. the srx features cadillac's edgy art and science design philosophy, introduced on the cts sedan. People tend to love it or hate it. The srx looks modern, even futuristic, but doesn't neglect cadillac's heritage. It was inspired by the original el dorado, with its exuberant tailfins, that debuted in 1959. Love it or hate it, it's bold and unabashedly american. The styling is getting a little long in the tooth at this point, however. interiorthe 2007 cadillac srx brings an all-new handcrafted interior, featuring a new instrument panel, hand-wrapped upper trim, console, center stack, door trim, wood trim, analog clock and steering wheel. the redesigned cockpit has softer, more tactile surfaces and greater use of wood-grain and chrome trim. Switches and controls are now flush-mounted, and the center console now is more streamlined. The new instrument panel and door trim are built using cadillac's new cut-and-sew interior process that combines advanced technology with the hand-rendered expertise of craftsmen. The new cockpit for 2007 is hand-built, using the same elite process as the limited-production cadillac sts-v and xlr-v models. everything is easy to operate in this car. At 41 inches, it has more rear legroom than other midsize luxury sport-utilities and as much rear hip room as the roomy acura mdx. five-passenger seating is standard, with individual seats in front and a three-place bench in back. The second seat powers back and forth for more legroom or more cargo space. More suvs should have this feature. The cargo area in the five-passenger model can be outfitted with covered storage spaces built into the floor. seven-passenger seating is achieved by ordering the optional third-row bench seat. This third row gives srx an edge on many of its competitors, including the infiniti fx and lexus rx. Yet the srx's third seat provides less room, including legroom, than those in the acura mdx and volvo xc90. The cadillac's third-row seat folds flat into the floor with the press of a button. Adding greatly to convenience, buttons to accomplish this are provided near the rear hatch and on the pillar just behind the second row of seats. The third row comes with storage bins and cup holders. Each row of seats sits higher than the one in front of it, theater style, so everyone can see out. luggage space is about average for the class but it lays out better than most with a nice, flat cargo floor. The cargo floor behind the second row , is dog-friendly, which makes the srx an excellent vehicle for the fur-bearing members of the family. Roof rails come standard to expand cargo-carrying capability. storage cubbies abound, including covered front door compartments, front door map pockets, front seatback pockets, a front center console with two compartments, a bin behind the front console and a glove box with a shelf. New for 2007 is the addition of a storage compartment on the passenger side of the instrument panel. There are cup holders in the front seat center console and second seat fold-down armrest. The srx also has rear coat hooks that are accessible from both the rear passenger doors and liftgate, whichever proves more convenient when picking up the dry cleaning. srx's interior electronics and entertainment are enhanced for 2007, including a standard bose audio system on all srx models. In addition, the renowned bose 5. 1 digital surround system is available as an option. For those who want top-of-the-line interior entertainment gadgets, the optional theater package covers all bases with bose 5. 1 digital surround, dvd navigation and rear seat dvd entertainment. a super-sized ultra view sunroof is optional. Push the button to open the sunroof and first- and second-row passengers can enjoy 5. 6 feet of open air overhead. 2008 bmw 5 series review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Major update improves a true sports sedan. introductionsubstantial improvements to the bmw 5 series sedans and wagon for 2007 add a lot, but change little. The 5 series remains a truly sporting sedan that stands out in the fiercely competitive market for mid-sized luxury cars. changes for 2008 represent the most significant model-year update since the current 5 series was launched in 2003. They include mild exterior revisions, improvements to the interior and a significant power boost for six-cylinder models. The new 528i, formerly the 525i, is the most powerful entry-level 5 series to date. The twin-turbo 535i, formerly the 530i, is the quickest six-cylinder 5 series car ever. The change in bmw's numeric naming scheme is a result of the change in engines, but the various models and their relationship to each other remain basically the same. their basic character hasn't changed a bit, because every 5 series puts an emphasis on the driving. This mid-size luxury sedan remains a true sports sedan in any of its variations, including the 535xi wagon and other models equipped with all-wheel drive. Regardless of engine size or equipment level, the 5 series line delivers lively acceleration, precise handling and outstanding brakes. Even the base 528i boasts spirited performance, with decent fuel economy to lower operating costs. The 300-hp six-cylinder in the 535i matches some v8s, while the v8-powered 550i delivers true high performance by any definition. The limited-production m5 can out-accelerate, out-brake and out corner some expensive sports cars, with comfortable seating for five. It's still loaded with the technology that's made it a benchmark for critics and auto industry engineers alike, and some of its systems and features have a dark side. The i-drive point-and-click control system, for example, takes time and energy to learn, and drivers who aren't willing to invest the energy, or those who just prefer things simple, might want to look at another car. however, those who put driving satisfaction first should put the 5 series near the top of their test-drive list. lineupwith new engines and more power for 2008, bmw's numeric nomenclature for six-cylinder 5 series models has changed. But the model line hasn't really changed at all. There are two six-cylinder engines, a v8, and an ultra-high performance v10, manual and automatic transmissions and optional all-wheel drive. The 5 series sports wagon is offered only with the more powerful six-cylinder and all-wheel drive. the least expensive 5 series is now the 528i 44,300), powered by bmw's high-tech magnesium alloy 3. 0-liter inline 6 generating 230 horsepower, or 15 more than the previous 525i. That's an increase of 45 horsepower over the former 530i. The 535xi sports wagon 54,000) has x-drive all-wheel drive. All 535s add xenon adaptive headlights. the most popular option for the six-cylinder models is the premium package 2,300 for 528i, $2,100 for 535i), which adds dakota leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener and the swanky interior lighting package with ambient light, auto-dimming and outside approach lighting. those items come standard on the 550i 58,500), which is powered by a 360-hp, 4. 8-liter v8. The 550i also comes with park distance control parking assist. for 2008, the 535s and the 550i can be equipped with a sport automatic 500) transmission, which adds paddle shift bars on the steering wheel and shifts more crisply in manual mode. Bmw's sequential manual gearbox, which works like a manual without a clutch pedal, is no longer offered on any 5 series except the ultra-high performance m5. the m5 82,900) sits atop the 5 series lineup. It's powered by a hand-built 500-hp 5. 0-liter v10, with suspension and brakes enhanced to match all the power, offered with either a six-speed full manual or a seven-speed smg clutch-less manual gearbox. two big ticket options have been added for 2008. Bmw's lane departure warning system 500) is camera based, and notifies the driver via mild steering-wheel vibration of any movement that might indicate an inadvertent lane change. The new stop and go feature for active cruise control 2,400) is space age. Like the previous system, it uses radar to keep the 5 series from moving to close to a car ahead, without driver intervention. Yet the new stop and go system works even in heavy traffic, accommodating speeds all the way down to a complete stop, and resuming to the set speed from 0 mph. other option groups include: the cold weather package 750), with heated front seats, heated steering wheel and heated, high-pressure headlight washers; the sport package 2,800 for six-cylinder models, $1,300 for all-wheel drive and $4,600 the 550i), with bmws active steering and active body control systems, larger wheels with performance tires, more potent brakes and sport seats; and logic7 audio 1,200) with six-cd changer. stand-alone options include a navigation system 1,900), a folding rear seat 475), sirius satellite radio 595), and a new auxiliary ipod/usb jack 400). Hd radio 500) delivers enhanced digital audio quality, with fm reception that compares to cd quality and am reception comparable to analog fm. Bmw's head-up display, or hud 1,200), projects speed and other data on the windshield, while night vision 2,200) uses a thermal-imaging camera that monitors the road ahead and displays images on the navigation screen before they might be visible to t. walkaroundfor 2008, the bmw 5 series has been mildly updated with what the auto industry calls a facelift. It seems more substantial than some small luxury or sport sedans, with more usable interior space. At the same time it's no so physically bulky as large sedans, and easier to maneuver in tight spaces or park. bmw's recent approach to exterior design has been discussed as frequently as any in the car world, and more than occasionally criticized. On the 5 series at least, the curvy front-end, flat sides and high rear deck stand out less than they once did. That could simply mean we've grown more familiar with the shape, rather than more appreciative. the critics contend that, with the kabuki-eyebrow look in front and the chunked-off shape of the trunk lid, the 5 series seems almost like two halves taken from different cars. It also has a few too many lines. Those character lines crossing the rear end, or the double creases framing the hood, seem a bit overdone. In any case, none of this seems to have hurt 5 series sales, and five years into its model run the current generation has subtly evolved. the 2008 tweaks start in front, where the headlight covers are now completely clear, with chrome surrounds highlighting individual lights inside. In back, the rear lights are covered with the same clear glass as the fronts, and the turn signals are now leds. those comma-shaped, wraparound taillights apply a technology introduced by bmw that has spread to a number of makes. The company calls them adaptive brake lights, and they illuminate more intensely, over a larger area, when the abs system engages. Or in other words, when the driver is stopping has hard as possible. The point is to inform drivers in cars following the 5 series that it's stopping quickly, possibly in an emergency situation. It could help, but only if the driver following correctly interprets the increased intensity of the brake lights. bmw re-introduced a 5 series wagon for 2006. The rear gate opens electrically, with a switch on the key fob or dashboard, and swings very high for easy access to the load floor.
